You may have imagined telling your partner about your pregnancy and receiving a very different reaction than what you actually experienced. Instead of feeling supported, you may now be left wondering what this means for your relationship, your pregnancy, and what happens next.
Your partner may be scared or uncertain about the future, but his reaction does not mean you have to ignore your own feelings or needs. Even when you don’t see eye to eye, making space for your feelings and finding the support you need can help you move forward.
Alpha House Pregnancy Resource Center is here to support you throughout your unexpected pregnancy. We provide a safe place to discuss your situation and learn about the resources available to you.

Be Honest With Each Other
If you feel safe and comfortable doing so, talking openly with your partner about the pregnancy can help you both better understand where the other person is coming from. Share how you are feeling and any concerns you have about the future, while giving your partner space to express his thoughts, too.
Listening to each other may also help you identify where additional support is needed. For example, if your partner is worried about finances or providing for a child, community programs and material assistance may be available.
You do not have to agree on everything or find all the answers in one conversation. Giving yourselves time to process the pregnancy and revisit the conversation can bring greater clarity about how you both feel and what support you may need.
Seek Healthy Support
If your partner is struggling to support you, remember that you do not have to go through this alone.
Consider reaching out to someone you trust, such as a friend, family member, mentor, counselor, or healthcare professional. Healthy support should allow you to express your feelings, ask questions, and feel heard without being pressured into a decision.
At Alpha House PRC, we offer confidential support services where you can talk with our caring mentors, ask questions, and receive information about your options and the resources available to you.
If your partner’s behavior has become threatening or controlling, your safety should come first. You can reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline for confidential support.
Confirm Your Pregnancy
Before making a decision about your pregnancy, it is important to understand how your pregnancy is developing. A pregnancy test can detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), but it does not provide a complete picture of your pregnancy.
An ultrasound can offer additional information, such as:
- How many weeks are you into your pregnancy
- Where the pregnancy is located
- Whether the pregnancy is developing
Having this information can help you better understand your situation as you consider your next steps. After confirming your pregnancy with a limited ultrasound, we can provide accurate information about your options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion.
