Facing an unexpected pregnancy can feel overwhelming. You may be thinking through your options, including abortion. Before you decide, there are a few essential steps to take that can help protect your health and give you the clarity you need.

At Alpha House Pregnancy Resource Center, we’re here to walk alongside you with compassionate, confidential care—no pressure or judgment. Schedule a no-cost and confidential appointment today.

Here are three things that will protect your safety before an abortion.

1. Confirm Your Pregnancy with an Ultrasound

A positive home test is just the beginning. To better understand what’s going on with your body, the next step is to confirm your pregnancy with a lab-quality test and a limited ultrasound.

An ultrasound can provide essential information, including:

  • If your pregnancy is progressing normally (and you haven’t had a miscarriage)
  • How far along you are (your gestational age, which also estimates your due date)
  • Where the pregnancy is located (inside the uterus or outside, which is an ectopic pregnancy)

Knowing how far along you are helps determine what options are available and what next steps are safest for you. For example, a medical abortion is only FDA-approved up to ten weeks of pregnancy, so it is only an option for a short window of time.

We offer pregnancy testing and limited ultrasounds at no cost to you.

2. Talk with a Medical Professional

Discussing your health history and current medications is an important part of your decision-making process, especially when considering the abortion pill. The abortion pill can be risky if taken at the same time as drugs like steroids and blood thinners. It can also be unsafe for women with certain pre-existing conditions.

Our goal is to give you medically accurate information in a safe, private environment, so you can make a decision that’s right for you.

3. Explore All Your Options

It’s okay if you’re still weighing your options. Whether you’re leaning toward abortion, parenting, or adoption, we’ll walk through each one so you can understand what’s involved. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
